The Underwater Church
Just 2 hours from Milan, you can visit the most unusual of tourist attractions, featured on a new Netflix drama, the bell tower of Curon Venosta emerges seemingly impossibly from lake Resia.
…But is this for real you will be asking or just some camera trickery?
Italy's own Atlantis is in fact very real but not at all intentional. In the 1950's the project of an artificial reservoir for the production of electricity was devised, but unfortunately for the local residents, it was necessary to build a dam that would join the lakes of Resia and Curon, completely submerging the two small neighbouring towns.
The small local population of just 200 even turned to the Pope to stop the project but their attempts were ultimately useless. The dam was built and the citizens abandoned everything.
The buildings were destroyed and the town was submerged but for one special exception... the bell tower which to this day rises impossibly out of the crystal clear lake.
Location: Lago di Resia
