The Secret Garden

Unknown to most locals, yet just a few steps from the Cattolica University. If you need to catch a break from the crowds in the historical centre, the Calderini Garden is the spot.

This hidden garden is set on the historic grounds of an ancient villa of the 15th century historian Bernardino Corio. Many ruins of the famous villa still stand, but today are caressed by colourful greenery in the Spring and climbing ivy in the Autumn. Just a few steps from the crowds of Corso Magenta, you can reach a corner of tranquility.

Besides the ruins of the villa, a second monument stands out. A steel spire created in 1996 by artist Arnaldo Pomodoro in tribute of Francesco Castellini - a local 17-year old boy who before dying in a tragic accident, loved to spend his free time here. Francesco's family is still responsible today for keeping this very special little park alive.
