Famous Italian Pastries
We’ve already established that a big breakfast is not common practice here, however a sweet breakfast is...
If you’ve been following us around for a while, you would know by now that the local favorite is the: brioche, nevertheless the options don’t stop there!
An Italian bakery may feel a tad overwhelming at first... almost as if you’re navigating through a labyrinth.
Let us make it simple for you, so that the next time you’re at a bar ordering breakfast, you know exactly what to ask for!
#1. Cannolo siciliano
The cannolo is a Sicilian pastry composed of a fried biscuit with cream filling made out of Ricotta cheese. Yum!
#2. Sfogliatella
This is a typical in Campania prepared with puff pastry, or shortcrust!
#3. Cannoncino
The cannoncino is much similar to the cannolo, but it is much smaller and not fried. My personal favourite!
#4. Pasticcino Alla Frutta
This is basically a small piece of cake with fruit on top. The perfect guilt free treat.
#5. Zeppola
Prepared in slightly different ways in various regions of southern Italy. The main ingredients are flour, sugar, eggs, butter, olive oil, custard & a sprinkling of icing sugar and sour cherries in syrup as decor.
