1930 - THE most exclusive bar in Milan
You already know how Milanese nightlife works. The logic is basic and well followed; the less people able to come in, the cooler the place is. But there is a place in the city that is more 'religion' than 'bar'.
Behind the veil of the 1930 is the Mag family but no, it’s not just a marketing initiative or a local myth, the bar is actually a secret. In fact, one of the best kept ones in town.
Unlike those bars made to entertain the paying élite, 1930 is truly exclusive. Even if you find the bar; there are no secret passwords to deploy, there are no banknotes to let slip into a bouncers pocket, there are no shortcuts or backdoors. Either you are invited or you are not. Either you are in or you are out. It’s that simple.
So how do you get invited? You have to become a regular at Mag Cafe or Barba until the Grandmaster himself judges you worthy of invite. You may visit for years and hear just whispers in the back or be so lucky to be invited first time. In any case, there are no shortcuts to joining Milans most exclusive fraternity!
For those lucky and/or daring enough to be invited, the secret will be ripped apart in the moment you show your badge and codeword. A door will open and a sharply-dressed waiter will appear to you and it that moment you will wonder what you've gotten yourself in for...
Beyond the secret door, your efforts will finally be rewarded. A wonderland or, if you are a Netflix fan, an Upside Down with the only difference that, instead of monsters, you will find cocktails that you can't possibly imagine. The menu itself is a Bible that besides the drinks and the food, has a story in it, an urban legend that if you want, you can buy and read at home with the most sincere and fervent worshippers collecting it. Listing them, mentioning them or trying to explain them is forbidden, but in any case useless... You must be there, sitting in the lounge or, even better, in the underground lair, sinking in velvet armchairs with an ear to the piano (yes, there’s also live piano music) to fully grasp what it means to be a 1930’s patron. All things considered, 1930 is more a mystery religion than a bar.
